TranscribeCat vs Descript

Descript is a video editor that transcribes, from $24 a month per editor. TranscribeCat is $2.00 an hour for the transcript alone. Most of what you pay Descript for is not transcription.

What Descript is

Descript combines transcription with audio and video editing. Editing the transcript can edit the media itself. Its subscriptions include media allowances and creator tools.

Where Descript is the better choice

Descript fits a workflow where the next step is editing a podcast or video. TranscribeCat edits the transcript; it does not cut the source recording or create a finished video.

Where we are

TranscribeCat provides text and subtitle downloads without an editor subscription. Each file costs at least $2.00, so compare actual file lengths before deciding.
